We love a spontaneous photo. How else will you capture her sudden smile or his post-feeding contented face? But sometimes to get the perfect picture of baby to share and treasure, a little pre-planning is necessary.

Here's our latest tip for taking wonderful pictures of your baby: grab a prop! There are loads of great ideas out there for baby pictures, especially for milestone photos like monthly portraits. Here are a few ideas:

  • Use a large stuffed animal or other prop and place it in each photo to chart baby's growth.
  • Hang a banner or other backdrop behind your favorite photo spot. Just make sure it's out of reach/line of site for your little one, who, before you know it, will be active enough to want to grab it!
  • Use a chalkboard to record special notes about baby's likes and dislikes at this stage.

By using a consistent prop style, you'll have a cute series of baby pictures to cherish long after he or she will sit still for your mini photo sessions.
